『下らない話』
高橋の個展を見に来てくれた方は分かると思いますが額が手作りです。
これは通称みっちゃん（高橋の妻）が全部作ってくれています。
最初は高橋が作っていたのですが「仕事がきたない！」と言い出して、
「じゃあ、作ってみな！」と逆切れしたら、
実際にお父さんが大工の棟梁と言うだけあって仕事がとってもきれいだったのです。
小さいころから木と触れあってるとなにか違います。
ということで、現在は設計のみを高橋が担当しています。
みっちゃんは高橋の妻である以外にも、
『 光穂 』というバックパッカー＆フォトグラファーでもあり、
毎年、３ヶ月から半年旅に行ってしまいます。
お仕事の打ち合わせ等でその話になると「よく、耐えられるね」と言われます。
いや、耐えられません。
寂しい上に、お仕事の雑務などもこなしてもらっているので居なくなると大変困ります。
ただ、「強く居場所のある作品作り」を目指すヒキコモリの高橋に、
アウトドアのみっちゃんが与えてくれるものがあるのです。
それは「 目 」と「 話 」。
「 目 」とはいろいろな国、様々な場所、人を見た「 目 」。
特にそうですが、発展途上国と言われている国では、生活に必要無いものは無くなっていきます。
そんな中でも、残っている美術品、創作物は凄いと思いませんか？
それは、「大きくて壊すほうが大変なもの」だったり
「物凄く手間がかかっていて壊すに忍びないもの」だったり
「ものすごい事件があってそれに関わっているのだ」とか
単純なことから、もっと複雑な「何か」だったり
そんな「強く居場所のある」物達を見てきた
（高橋の作品をたぶん世界で一番知っている）みっちゃんに作品を見てもらい、
ソノ強さの度合いを測る。そして、語る。
ちょっと、素敵でしょう。
「話」これは特に高橋は大好き。
みっちゃんが旅でバックパッカー仲間から仕入れてくる「話」は大変芳醇な香がします。
本当の話、また、たぶん創作されたものが、「目」の話と一緒で、
何人もの人を経由して必要無いものは削られ、また足されて、削られ、
とても完成度の高い「強く居場所のある話」なっているのです。
前振りが長くなりましたがそんな「 話 」の中から高橋のお気に入りを１つ。
作家なんてことをしていると「よくこんな下らないことをしてるね。」なんて言われたりします。
高橋はいつも
「下らないことを沢山していこうよ。下らないことがさらっとできる大人になりたいね。」
なんて、軽く周りの人に言ってましたが、この「話」を聞いた時、泣きそうになりました。
「下らない話」
「下らない」の語源を知っていますか？
「下らない」の意味を考えたことがありますか？
まず、チベットやネパール、アルゼンチン等の人たちはなぜ、高地にいるのでしょう。
まず、弱い人たちが、裕福な土地から追いやられてきたのでしょう。
そして、そこで宗教やそこでしか育まれないもの、「生きる意味」を見つけます。
現在、まだその人たちはそこにいます。
高山の土地は貧困で生きるのも難しい。
では、なぜ、裕福な街や川や海のある土地へ下っていかないのでしょうか。
下った方が楽に生きられるのに。
国の問題でいけない人たちもいますがそれ以外にも理由があるはずです。
それは、そこに「生きる意味」があるからです。
それは、そこでしか育まれないものだからです。
下って裕福になった人たちは言います。
「裕福なほうが良いに決まっているではないか。」
「何をそんなに下らない事にこだわっているんだ。」と
「下る」トいうことは「生きる意味」を失うこと。
「生きる意味」を理解できなくなることと思います。
分かりやすく？絵で例えます。
ドローイングを描きます。
「もう少し、水滴が右に落ちていたら最高に良い絵だったのに」
と、いう時があります。
でもそれは、その時にそこに落ちなかったのだから良い絵ではありません。
高橋は認めません。
でも、その話をして
「大丈夫だよ。今はコンピューターがあるから。チョチョイと直せてしまうよ。」
って、違います。
高橋は自分の絵でそれがしたいんです。
何十回それをくり返すことになってもそれをしたいのです。
出来た時の感動。その動作から生まれた副産物が欲しいんです。
でも実際、コンピューターで直したら同じ良い絵になります。
皆それをやっています。
仕事では高橋もやる時あります。
仕事等納期がある場合は特に言われます。
「その作業に何の意味があるの？」
「これはこれで終わらして、もっとそのあいた時間で違うことができるじゃない？」
「時間が勿体無いよ」
「それをしたらすぐに作業に入れるんだけど、周りに迷惑だと思わない？」
「思うかー！！！！ぼけ－！！！」（高橋）
それをすることによって失うものが物凄く大きいことに気付いていますか？
それに１０年かかるんだったらその１０年を踏まないとその次には確実にいけないことを知っていますか？
直してしまったらその１０年を１時間にすることは出来ます。
でも、絶対にその次にはいけません。絶対。
また、それに気付けなくなってしまう。
それを理解しましょう。
「楽にできるんだから良いじゃん」
「そんな下らないことでキナイヨ」
「下らないことしてるんじゃないよ」と言われて傷付いた方は、沢山いるとおもいます。
でも、この話を知っていたら次からは「にやり」と笑えますよ。
下った人も是非、また頂目指して上って下さい。
高橋はこれからも「下らないことを沢山していこうよ。」なんて軽く周りに言っていきます。
高橋も「下らない」人間になりたいと思っています。

どんなに苦しくても貧困でも傷付いても、自分の頂からは「下らない」人になって下さい。
そして、他の「下らない」人にそっと気がついて、一緒に笑えるようになりましょう。

"Kudara-nai hanashi"
People who came to Takahashi's personal exhibition could be aware that all of the frames are hand made.
All of them are made by Mittyan, who is Takahashi's wife Mitusho.
For the initial period of time, frame were made by Takahashi, however mittyan said "Your work is too rough."
So, I said to her "Then, you make it!" sneeringly.
In fact, her father is a master builder, and her work was very good.
Something is different if he/she come in contact with woods when his/her childhood.
Because of the above reason, Takahashi takes care of only designing by now.
Mittyan is not only Takahashi's wife, but also 'a backpacker and a photograper' whose name is "Mitsuho."
For 3 months to a half of a year, she go away to the other countries as a backpacker.
When discussing of work or something like that, frequently he/she said "Why you can have to live with the situation?"
No, I cannot.
On the other hand, Mittyan gives important things to Takahashi whose aim is the "creations which have whereabouts strongly."
However Takahashi is a "Hikikomori," who is a person mainly being at home, and Mittyan is a outdoorswoman.
They are "eyes" and "talk."
"Eyes" are eyes that saw many places and many persons in developing countries.
It is especially true in developing countries, 'matters that are not needed for their life' are vanished away.
In the above situation, some of virtu/creations stay in there.
It is great, is not it?
(The reasons why they stay in there are simply "too big to break it," "It took thousands of man-hours, and not have the heart to break it," or "It is concerned with a big affair." Or there are "some" more complex reasons.)
Takahashi asks to see my work to Mittyan who had seen the above virtu/creations that have whereabouts strongly (and she knows about Takahashi's work most).
Then I measure whether the work has whereabouts strongly or not through Mittyan's eyes. Next, I talk about it with Mittyan. It is a bit nice, is not it?
"Talk," Takahashi likes it very much.
Flavor of "Talks" that were gotten from backpackers by Mittyan is smooth mellowness.
In truth, creations have added or pruned via many person's eyes, and they are shined up such as the above story of "eyes."
The preface is too long, but I will show a talk that is one of my favorites.
Some persons said to me "Why you are doing an artist that is worthless?"
Takahashi always says "Do worthless things. Then, I want to be an adult who can do worthless things."
I say the above talk to folks lightly. However, when I heard the talk, I felt close to tears.
"Kudara-nai hanashi"
"Kudara-nai hanashi" means "worthless talks" in Japanese.
"Kudara-nai" have the other meanings, and one of them is "Do not go down." Additionally, "hanashi" means "talk."
Do you know the derivation of "kudara-nai"?
Have you ever thought about the meaning of "kudara-nai"?
First of all, why does people of Tibet, Nepal, Argentina, etc live at uplands?
The first reason might be weak people was shunted to the uplands by rich people.
Then, they find "the reasons to live" that are religions or things which were cultivated only there.
At the present day, they are still there.
The uplands are poverty, and it is hard to live there.
So, why do they not go down to lands, which have rich cities, rivers, and seas?
If they go down to the lands, they will be able to live easily.
Some people cannot go down due to countries' problems, however the others can go down.
The reason why they do not down is there are "the reasons to live."
The reason why they do not down is there are things which are cultivated only there.
The people who downed says like the following:
"It is natural that be reach is good."
"What is the reason 'the people who lives at the uplands' hung up to do not down (do not down = "Kudara-nai")?"
Therefore, "kudara-nai" means "the reason to live."
Moreover it means understanding "the reason to live."
For easy to understand (?).
I will compare the above in drawings.
I draw drawings.
So many times, I encountered the following situation:
"If the droplet dropped a little more right side, it might be a masterwork."
However, since the droplet did not drop a little more right side at that time, it was not a masterwork.
Takahashi never admit.
About the above story, some people might say like this:
"It is okay. Recently you can use a computer, and fix it easily."
However, absolutely not.
Takahashi wants to do it by drawings.
Even if I have to try few dozens repeatedly, I want to do it.
The impression it is completed. I want the by-product as the result of the repeated motions.
However, in fact, if you fix by a computer, it will be a good thing.
Everybody does it.
Takahashi sometimes does it too for business.
Specially, if on businesses which have deadlines, many clients say as follows:
"Is there mean for that work?"
"If you finish this work by now, you can do another things during remaining times."
"It is waste of time."
"If you finish the work immediately, we can do the next work."
"I do not think so! Botages! (Takahashi says/said)"
Are you aware of losting a huge thing, if you will do such things?
If it is needed 10 years to establish it, you have to take exactly 10 years. Do not you know it?
If you fix it by a computer you can do the work in 1 hour, even if it takes 10 years originally.
However, you cannot go to the next absolutely. Absolutely.
Moreover you are not able to aware of the above fact.
Be aware of the fact.
"If you can do it easily, it goes."
"I cannot do such a nasty thing."
There are many persons who are hurt by acerbity words which are "Do not such a worthless thing."
However, you can laugh about the acerbity words.
If you are the person who downed (= kudatta), please climb to the top (please become a "kudara-nai" person).
Takahashi will say to folks the following:
"Do a lot of worthless ("kudara-nai") thing."
Also Takahashi wants to be a "kudara-nai" person.
The persons who know the above story, let's laugh.
Even if you are in agonizing situation, please do not down ("kudara-nai") from the top of yourself.
Then, be aware of "kudara-nai" persons lightly, and become the preson who can laugh with them.
